In the latest Rasmussen poll, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ bid for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination has seen a significant decline, placing him tied for third with former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. The poll, conducted from December 19-21 among 792 Likely Republican primary voters, reveals former President Donald Trump leading with a commanding 51%, followed by former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley at 13%. DeSantis and Christie both stand at 9%, with only 1% supporting Vivek Ramaswamy, while 16% remain undecided.
DeSantis’ support has steadily diminished since May when he declared his intention to run, contrasting with Trump’s consistent dominance. In November, Trump held 50% support among GOP primary voters, and DeSantis’ decline has allowed Haley and Christie to gain ground. Trump leads the FiveThirtyEight average polling at 62.4%, with DeSantis at 11.7% and Haley at 10.9%. DeSantis, actively campaigning in Iowa for the Jan. 15 caucus, aims to revitalize his campaign, despite trailing Trump significantly in the state. The demographic breakdown shows Trump’s support, especially among men and older voters, while DeSantis struggles to maintain momentum, particularly with younger voters.
