When there’s a will there’s a way: Military sends confiscated Iranian ammunition to further fuel the Russo-Ukrainian war

Alternative title: “You will give free stuff to Zelenskyy and you will be happy”

Joe Biden keeps his promises to foreign powers: On Tuesday, October 4th, the U.S. military announced the transfer of over 1 million rounds of ammunition, initially seized from Iran, to Ukraine, as part of an effort to assist Kyiv’s forces in overcoming Russia’s defenses ahead of winter. DON’T BE FOOLED: This move seems to take place in the wake of political conflicts in the Senate that have put aid to Ukraine in jeopardy BUT, according to Central Command spokesperson Capt. Abigail Hammock, the shipment of 1.1 million rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition for Ukrainian armed forces has been in the planning stages for several months.

The ammunition, compatible with AK-47 rifles, had been confiscated by U.S. Navy forces from a stateless dhow in transit from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to the Houthi rebels in Yemen on December 9, 2023. This transfer is seen as a strategic move to bolster Ukraine’s capabilities as it faces ongoing conflict in the region.
