Nearly 700 metric tonnes of unused COVID-19 vaccines have been disposed of in the Philippines, according to a report by Inquirer.
In the meantime, it is projected that the country’s wastage of COVID-19 vaccines may surge to 50 million doses by the end of March, primarily due to low vaccination rates. Acting Health Secretary Maria Rosario Vergeire was cited by the newspaper as the source of this information.
Furthermore, reports from local media in the Czech Republic indicate that COVID-19 vaccines valued at a total of $213 million had to be discarded because they had expired. This information was confirmed by the country’s health ministry.
Several other European nations, including Germany, Belgium, and Bulgaria, have also faced the need to dispose of expired vaccines. This unfortunate situation has arisen due to a decrease in public interest in receiving vaccinations, as highlighted by the health ministry.
