“UN Appeals to Revoke Gaza Relocation Order Amid Humanitarian Crisis.”
The United Nations has called for the rescission of an Israeli military order that mandates the relocation of over 1.1 million people living in northern Gaza within 24 hours. The order was communicated to the UN by Israeli military liaison officers. UN Spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric expressed serious concerns about the humanitarian consequences of this relocation, considering it “impossible” to execute safely.
The UN World Health Organization (WHO) joined in the plea for Israel to revoke the relocation order, stating that it would essentially be a “death sentence” for many, especially critically injured patients who couldn’t be evacuated. The situation in Gaza’s health facilities is dire, with overcrowded hospitals and health workers facing horrific choices.
Furthermore, the UN called for the immediate release of hostages in Gaza following a deadly attack on Israel by Hamas. They emphasized the need to protect civilians and grant urgent aid access to the enclave. Humanitarian agencies urgently sought access to Gaza, with supplies rapidly depleting.
A flash appeal for $294 million was launched by the UN to address the immediate needs of 1.26 million people in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. The appeal aimed to respond to the escalating crisis that had placed civilians in a situation they should never have to endure. The international community was urged to unite in solidarity to protect all civilians, regardless of their location or background. The UN Security Council was scheduled to meet in New York to address the situation in Gaza.
