“Pride month” fiasco was not a lesson to be learned after all?
A few days ago, Target hired activist Erik Thompson as the “Senior LGBTQIA+ Segmentation Strategist and Pride Lead”. This move highlights the company’s focus on the LGBTQIA+ agenda. Instead of profit, Target seems to aim at a continued push of LGBTQIA+ and pride-themed merchandise. This… target disregards customer feedback and potentially alienates a significant portion of its consumer base. The consequences are tangible: Target’s sales have been significantly lower since the summer backlash over Target’s “pride month” new… collection”.
Target’s CEO, Brian Cornell, is said to have acknowledged the potential impact of the negative guest reaction on sales and initiated measures to reduce the emphasis on transgender merchandise. Nevertheless, Target has introduced… Christmas-themed LGBTQIA+ merchandise, such as “pride”-themed nutcrackers and a Santa Claus holding a pride flag. For Target, inclusivity does not… include Christians who may find such items offensive.
