Serious Issues in the Royal Navy

Britain’s Royal Navy has issued a directive to its sailors, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity by encouraging the use of gender pronouns during introductions before meetings. According to a document titled “Trans and Non-Binary Awareness,” which was leaked to The Telegraph, the Royal Navy’s internal intranet features this guidance. The document suggests that starting meetings and interactions with self-identifying pronouns is a way to promote inclusivity. Furthermore, it acknowledges that some individuals do not identify within the traditional gender binary and may use various pronouns such as they/them, hers, or neo-pronouns like ze/hir/hirs. It emphasizes the significance of respecting the pronouns individuals choose to share.

Additionally, the guide includes a representation of a “trans umbrella,” illustrating the diverse forms of gender expression, including “pangender,” “gender-neutral,” and “two-spirit,” which is a term used to describe the gender identity of certain Native Americans.

However, not everyone within the Royal Navy supports this initiative. Admiral Lord West, a former First Sea Lord, expressed surprise and concern, suggesting that this emphasis on gender might be divisive and counterproductive to the Navy’s unity and combat readiness.

In addition to addressing gender-related issues, the Royal Navy has urged its officers to educate sailors about leftist ideological concepts such as “white privilege” and “intersectionality.” It posits that various societal factors, including race, class, and gender, combine to shape a person’s unique experiences of disadvantage or discrimination. The guidance also asserts that, in most situations, skin color does not significantly impact outcomes for “white” individuals.

Critics argue that this push for leftist ideologies within the military is concerning, particularly as it may affect the readiness of Britain’s armed forces, particularly amid growing concerns about potential conflicts involving Russia and Ukraine.

Reclaim Party leader Laurence Fox, commenting on the trans guidance, humorously suggested that it might instill fear in Britain’s adversaries, wondering how many naval vessels might opt for non-binary pronouns. He quipped about the existence of “non-binary aircraft carriers.”

The Ministry of Defence responded by stating that the Royal Navy is dedicated to protecting the UK’s interests and fostering respect among personnel. However, they indicated that the guidance is currently under review, suggesting that it may not fully align with their established standards.
