Jim Jordan (R-OH) has trouble persuading Senators to vote for him. In the meantime, precious days are being spent and the prospect of a new government shutdown in mid-November is still very much alive. (NOT) Funding two wars (Russo-Ukrainian, Israeli-Palestinian), instead of one, is now at stake!
On Wednesday, October 18th, Rep. Jim Jordan, after losing the initial House Speaker vote, is making another attempt in a crucial second ballot. This second vote will determine whether the staunch supporter of Donald Trump can sway those who opposed him, or if his quest for the speakership is crumbling due to opposition.
In anticipation of the second, morning vote, Jordan surprisingly called for party unity, urging his fellow Republicans to cease infighting and unite. Nevertheless, a notable group of 20 Republicans, representing various political stances, rejected Jordan’s nomination. Many of them resisted pressure to endorse him, considering the Ohio congressman too extreme for the influential role of House speaker, which is second in line to the presidency.
Additional voting scheduled for Tuesday was postponed, causing a legislative deadlock as Jordan sought to garner more Republican support to succeed the ousted Kevin McCarthy and effectively restore a functional Republican majority in the Senate.
