Self-destructive Europe is suddenly selective: Greece warns about mass influx of Palestinian immigrants

A few weeks ago, Greece invited hundreds of thousands of immigrants for cheap labor but suddenly some future Palestinian refugees are a problem!

With Israel intensifying its blockade of Gaza and the prospect of a prolonged conflict in Middle East, Greece and Cyprus, the EU states that are closest to the area, are preparing for an increased influx of illegal migrants. Dimitris Keridis, the Greek minister for migration, has issued a warning, noting that the ongoing violence will exacerbate an already existing surge of migrants.

United Nations data indicate that Palestinians have been a significant part of this migration. Even before the recent escalation between Hamas and Israel, Greece had been grappling with a substantial increase in illegal migrant arrivals, surpassing the numbers seen in recent years. In 2022, Greece recorded 18,780 illegal entries, but this year, the figure has already more than doubled. While these numbers might appear relatively small in comparison to the United States, it’s crucial to remember that Greece is a European border state with a population of around 10 million, equivalent to the combined populations of Arizona and New Mexico.
