Poland is Europe as it should be: Ongoing plans for the first Polish nuclear power plant

Green, energy, and international policy done right

It didn’t make it to the headlines but that’s why TARGETNEWS is here: on Wednesday, September 27th, in Warsaw, capital of Poland, officials from Poland and the United States came together to formally agree on the advancement of Poland’s inaugural nuclear power plant project. This marks a pivotal step for Poland’s aspirations to transition away from environmentally harmful fossil fuels.

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki characterized this agreement to construct the nuclear facility at the Lubiatowo-Kopalino location in the Pomerania region, near the Baltic Sea, as the commencement of a fresh chapter in Poland’s energy landscape. He emphasized the merits of nuclear energy, highlighting its reputation for stability and environmental cleanliness.

About one year ago, in October 2022, Poland had selected the U.S. and Westinghouse to construct its inaugural nuclear plant. On that occassion, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki praised the robust Poland – U.S. partnership on many issues, including energy.

Parliamentary elections will be held in Poland on 15 October 2023. Too bad for us, we are not allowed to vote because Poland has a different, more serious approach to election integrity than, say, certain North American federal republics
