New York City is Unaffodable for Working Class

New York Post critique slams AOC for policies inflating cost of living.

The New York Post’s editorial board heavily criticized Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, asserting that while she was correct in acknowledging New York City’s unaffordability for working-class individuals, they attributed the responsibility for this situation to the policies she champions. In a recent town hall meeting, Ocasio-Cortez highlighted the struggle of the working class to afford living in the city, emphasizing that it’s not the wealthy but rather the working-class population facing this financial strain. She advocated for increased taxation of the rich as part of the solution.

The editorial condemned Ocasio-Cortez’s stance, holding her and her political allies accountable for the city’s crisis, particularly citing their support for policies that facilitated mass immigration into New York. They pointed out the financial strain caused by accommodating these immigrants, estimating a cost exceeding $12 billion through fiscal 2025. Furthermore, the editorial criticized progressive housing policies, such as advocating for more rent control, which has contributed to the scarcity of housing options in the city.

Additionally, the editorial highlighted actions taken by lawmakers, including Ocasio-Cortez, which reduced housing availability, citing instances like obstructing tax breaks for developers responsible for creating affordable housing. As a result, the city’s housing development has plummeted to half the number compared to the previous year.

Moreover, the editorial lambasted Ocasio-Cortez’s climate change agenda, alleging that it has spiked power prices in New York. It also criticized progressive criminal justice reforms, attributing billions of dollars in losses to shoplifting incidents, and ridiculed her proposed solution of taxing the rich, pointing out that the wealthy are leaving the state due to progressive policies.

The editorial concluded by asserting that Ocasio-Cortez and her progressive colleagues are indifferent to the consequences of their policies on the people they claim to represent. It warned that if progressive ideology persists in governing New York, the city will become even more unaffordable, prompting more residents to leave.
