The arrival of undocumented migrants on the shores of Lampedusa continues unabated, with approximately 2,000 to 2,500 individuals being transported from the Italian island each day. This information was conveyed by Francesca Basile, an official from the Italian Red Cross, during an interview with RIA Novosti.
In response to this ongoing challenge, Italy’s council of ministers has given its approval to a new decree aimed at streamlining the process of deporting undocumented migrants. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni made the announcement regarding this decree.
The decree includes various provisions designed to tackle issues related to asylum seekers potentially misrepresenting their age in order to be classified as minors. These measures seek to ensure greater accuracy in assessing the eligibility of refugees and undocumented migrants.
The situation on Lampedusa remains complex, as the influx of migrants persists, and the Italian government takes steps to address the various facets of this ongoing issue.
