According to CNN, the incident occurred in a parking lot located approximately 21 miles west of Chicago in Willowbrook. FOX 32 highlighted that two of the injured victims are currently in critical condition. Reports from FOX News revealed that DuPage County Sheriff’s Deputy Chief Eric Swanson stated that law enforcement officers patrolling the vicinity of the parking lot heard the gunshots and promptly responded. Swanson further added that the motive behind the incident remains unclear, and an ongoing investigation is underway.
There is currently no available information regarding the number of individuals involved in the incident as shooters. In Illinois, several gun control measures are in place, including a red flag law, a ban on “assault weapons,” a prohibition on “high capacity” magazines, a mandatory 72-hour waiting period, and a requirement for gun owners to obtain a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card. These measures are among various other controls implemented within the state.
