“Islamic scholars’ jihad advocacy fuels US extremism concerns.”
An Islamic scholar from Michigan urged Muslims in the West to embrace jihad, continuing a concerning trend in the United States. The scholar, Ahmad Musa Jibril, advocated for jihad in a video shared by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), criticizing a version of Islam he views as influenced by the West. He emphasized the importance of Muslims normalizing and openly discussing the concept of jihad, criticizing those who shy away from it post-9/11.
Additionally, another video surfaced featuring Imam Shadeed Muhammad warning Muslims in the West of a time when America will face consequences akin to Palestine. He emphasized the exploitation of native lands and suggested impending consequences for enjoying life in the West.
Alberto Fernandez of MEMRI expressed concern over the rise of extremist content on social media, highlighting the potential danger, especially for impressionable youth. He drew parallels to post-9/11 reactions and warned about potential radicalization from exposure to such ideas.
Fernandez noted Ahmad Musa Jibril’s previous association with radicalizing Western Muslims for ISIS. He also highlighted how ongoing conflicts, like the Israel-Hamas dispute, might further fuel extremist ideologies.
