Hilarious stories from the green scene: Scientist cannot handle “climate anxiety”, won’t get into a plane

To be fair, climate scientist Gianluca Grimalda is truer to his word than any given politician who keeps yelling “climate change”.

In October 2023 (“it’s the current year!”), climate scientist Dr. Gianluca Grimalda faces the risk of losing his job at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, based in Germany, due to his commitment to avoiding air travel for environmental reasons. The institute has issued a warning, urging him to return from Papua New Guinea to Germany within days. Grimalda, however, refuses to fly by jet, considering it detrimental to the planet. Instead, he intends to return home via alternative, more eco-friendly modes of transportation such as cargo ships, ferries, and trains.

It’s easy to look up his X/Twitter profile, it’s even easier to follow him as he’s a “slow-traveller”.

His stand highlights the personal sacrifices some individuals are willing to make to align with their environmental principles, even at the potential cost of their careers and their sanity. Climate change moral panic hurts real people!
