In southern Mexico, a recently emerged paramilitary organization called “Civil Army of the Indigenous People of Panthelo” has declared its existence, stating that its purpose is to defend against… another paramilitary group called “Los Machetes”, with connections to cartels . If you are not confused, you didn’t understand anything.
And where are the Mexican authorities?
The emergence of such paramilitary groups coincides with the Mexican government’s struggle to control the escalating wave of cartel-related violence that has plagued the country. Criminal organizations openly confront and overpower law enforcement and military personnel, effectively subjugating them.
