Florida Man may become something like a patron saint of new series of competitive games. Poor alligators…
A group of individuals in Florida is planning to organize a unique event called the “Florida Man Games”. By planning, we mean there is a site and proposed games, even a date and a place: 2024, February 24th, St. Augustine, Florida (of course). SAVE IT.
It’s not like the Olympics because it’s potentially FAR BETTER and inspired by the absurd and often bizarre antics associated with the Florida Man, a social media phenomenon known for his beer-loving, gator-owning, and mullet-wearing escapades. The organizers describe it as the “most insane athletic showdown on Earth” and aim to playfully mock Florida’s reputation for peculiar news stories involving guns, drugs, alcohol, and reptiles.
Scheduled for February in St. Augustine, the games include events like the Evading Arrest Obstacle Course, where participants dodge real police officers; the Category 5 Cash Grab, involving money-catching in a wind booth; and beer-belly wrestling. General admission tickets are priced at $45, and two former “American Gladiators” stars will serve as referees. The event’s creator, Pete Melfi, intends to turn Florida Man headlines into a day of wild mud games and Florida-style obstacle courses, offering people a chance to experience the “Florida Man life” for a day.
