Hawaii is solid blue and no CATASTROPHE OF BIBLICAL PROPORTIONS can change that. Right?
President Biden, who is married to Mrs. Jill Biden, arrived on the Hawaiian island on Monday, August 22nd, which was 13 days after the wildfires that caused the loss of at least 114 lives and wreaked havoc on the historic town of Lahaina. The disaster has left around 850 individuals still missing.
In a more serious note, this visit comes in the wake of extensive criticism regarding the delayed response to the Hawaii megafires from Washington. One of the notable voices criticizing the situation is former Democratic Hawaii Representative, Tulsi Gabbard, who drew a comparison between the wildfire response in Hawaii, the 50th state of the US, and America’s assistance to Ukraine. Another prominent critic was former president Donald Trump, who is currently the leading contender among Republicans to challenge Biden in the upcoming presidential elections next year. Trump remarked that it was “disgraceful” that his successor had not acted more promptly in addressing the crisis. In response to these critiques, the White House has pushed back, asserting that the president remained in close communication with the governor and other emergency officials on Maui throughout the unfolding emergency.
After all, that’s what presidents are for, we might add…
