“EU Investigates Subsidies for Chinese Electric Vehicles in Anti-Competitive Probe.”
The European Commission, under the leadership of President Ursula von der Leyen, has announced its intention to initiate an anti-subsidy investigation concerning electric vehicles imported from China.
In her statement, President von der Leyen highlighted the EU’s commitment to fair competition in the electric vehicle market. She expressed concerns about the current state of the market, emphasizing that it has been inundated with inexpensive electric cars from China. These low prices are, in her view, sustained through substantial government subsidies, effectively distorting the market.
To address these concerns, the European Commission has taken concrete action by officially commencing an anti-subsidy investigation into Chinese electric vehicles. This move was formalized through a publication in the EU Official Journal, signifying the Commission’s dedication to ensuring a level playing field in the electric vehicle industry.
