Defection or capture? An American (a TEXAN) soldier in North Korea

It’s not as simple as it seems

It’s a propagandist’s playground! A US soldier is currently being held in custody by North Korea. This situation has the potential to create a diplomatic challenge for the United States, particularly as it collaborates with its ally South Korea to maintain pressure on Pyongyang, which has been intensifying its ballistic missile tests and aggressive rhetoric.

“Mr King recognized the great value of our dictatorship and joined our country – side gulag willingly!”

The US Army has identified the soldier as Pvt. Travis King, who crossed the demarcation line into North Korea on Tuesday, July 18th. According to US military officials, King voluntarily and without authorization entered North Korea while participating in a civilian tour of the Joint Security Area, a small cluster of buildings situated within the 150-mile-long demilitarized zone (DMZ) that has separated North and South Korea since the conclusion of the Korean War in 1953.

“We believe he is presently in the custody of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK), and we are collaborating with our counterparts in the Korean People’s Army to address this incident,” stated Col. Isaac Taylor, spokesperson for US Forces Korea. Good luck with that
