Pro-Palestinian protesters rally in Washington, calling for an “intifada” against Israel.
Demonstrators gathered in Washington, DC, for what was described as the city’s “largest pro-Palestinian protest in years.” Tens of thousands convened in Freedom Plaza, where calls for an “intifada” against Israel were heard. The term “intifada” refers to the violent Palestinian uprisings against Israel, with the crowd chanting phrases like “Long live the intifada.”
These protests come after a series of violent actions in Israel, including the kidnapping of an estimated 100 to 200 individuals by Hamas militants and the killing of over 1,400 innocent people in Israel during terrorist attacks. Anti-Semitic messages were found painted on buildings before the demonstration, such as “Death to Israel” and “F*ck Israel.”
The protesters demanded a ceasefire in Gaza and the cessation of U.S. aid to Israel. They later moved near the White House, chanting “Guilty” and displaying signs criticizing President Joe Biden. The protests in Washington mirrored similar pro-Palestinian demonstrations that took place in London, drawing attention to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
