The upcoming “Barbie” film has sparked controversy, with a faith-based film review site claiming that it neglects its key demographic in favor of catering to a small percentage of the population. Movieguide, a Christian movie review site, issued a warning, criticizing the film for abandoning its core audience of families and little girls and instead focusing on LGBTQ stories.

According to Movieguide’s scathing review, the new “Barbie” movie forgets its primary audience and prioritizes nostalgic adults, pushing LGBTQ character stories. The film is also criticized for its poor execution, with multiple premises that failed to satisfy even the most loyal fans. The review laments Mattel’s decision to ignore the built-in market and audience for the franchise in favor of a smaller demographic.
While the film faces criticism, actress Margot Robbie defended it, stating that it was crafted to be inclusive for everyone. Director Greta Gerwig emphasized the film’s humor aimed at both children and adults. Additionally, cast members praised the film for its feminist messages and its empowerment of transgender representation. However, the film’s focus on gender and the sidelining of Barbie’s male counterpart, “Ken,” also drew mixed responses. Warner Bros. Pictures, the studio behind the film, has not yet responded to the criticism.
