A humanitarian corridor or a one-way street? Israel urges Hamas and Egypt to help civilians evacuate Gaza

Israel would like to see as many Palestinians as possible go for good but first Egypt must green-light the opening of a corridor.

Since early Wednesday, October 11th, 5th day of the new Israeli-Palestinian, discussions are underway to allow Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip to exit the area and enter Egypt, should Israeli forces launch a land invasion. An Israeli official disclosed that the proposal being considered entails permitting all U.S. citizens to cross through the Rafah border crossing with their U.S. passports. Meanwhile, movement for other Palestinian civilians would be restricted to 2,000 people daily. This plan requires approval from the Egyptians who manage the Rafah border crossing. The Israeli official cited it as being in Israel’s “best interest” to have as many Palestinians as possible leave Gaza.

This development comes in the context of Gaza experiencing significant airstrikes, resulting in a mass exodus of people from their homes, though the densely populated region provides limited options for refuge.
