The day after the ransacking of stores in downtown Marseille, France, all kinds of stuff, including cigarettes, glasses, mobile phones, shoes, and sports clothing flooded the black market and the internet. The gangs of looters had taken care to organize and coordinate these raids, targeting goods with resale value.
In certain neighborhoods, as well as around the train station, which are traditionally frequented by a few cigarette smugglers, dozens of young people are looking for customers with branded packs priced at 5 or 7 euros. The police spotted the operation as early as Sunday. It is difficult for them to intervene in the act because, like in the housing projects, lookouts alert as soon as a uniform is approaching.
