Canadian PM Trudeau likes USA only when Democrats rule

The peaceful relationship between the United States and Canada over a demilitarized 3,000-mile border for more than 200 years is something rare in history. Two World Wars saw to that and forged this cordiality. However, concerns arise as Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau expresses worries about the impact of “right-wing MAGA politics” on Canadian voters. Trudeau notes “a disturbing trend of right-wing rhetoric, echoing Russian disinformation, and misinformation on Ukraine”. What he fails to note is the impact of his strict pandemic policies and the suppression of truck drivers’ protest and historic convoy in 2022. But there is another reason Trudeau wants to polarize internal Canadian politican scene: reelection.

Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre emerges as a formidable challenger to Trudeau in the Canadian Parliament. Trudeau’s references to right-wing influence clearly targets figures like Poilievre. The Canadian leader has also accused Canadian Muslims of being influenced by “the American Right” into protesting against liberal policies. This is almost absurd, since Canadian Muslims are unlikely to be swayed by “right-wing MAGA conservatism”. After all, Trump administration was nothing but lenient to “radical islamic terrorism”.

Trudeau is being a politician, deflecting blame for his perceived failures onto external factors, such as purported influences from American media. The problem is that he sows doubt and mistrust to Canadian people, subverting USA – Canada relationship in the long run.
