UAW strike officially comes to a successful end?

Members of the union are voting whether they’ll agree on the new, improved terms of the Big Three.

Thousands of United Auto Workers (UAW) members at General Motors (GM) are set to complete voting on a tentative contract agreement, marking a crucial development in the extended labor dispute with Detroit’s three major automakers. The vote, expected to conclude today (Thursday, November 16th), follows targeted walkouts against GM, Ford, and Stellantis over the past six weeks. Despite the UAW’s recent successes in securing key demands, the outcome of the GM vote remains uncertain.

The proposed contracts, if ratified by the union’s 146,000 members, promise substantial pay increases and cost-of-living adjustments, resulting in a notable 33% wage gain for autoworkers. The top assembly plant workers could see their wages rise to approximately $42 per hour by April 2028. While Ford’s voting continues until early Saturday, Stellantis workers have already shown 66.5% approval for the deal as of Thursday, with some ballots yet to be counted in certain large factories.
