Biden’s Reporter Cheat Sheet Controversy

President Biden used reporters’ cheat sheets, raising concerns during joint press conferences, facing criticism.

President Biden was recently seen using a list of reporters during a joint press conference with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. A photograph that surfaced online revealed President Biden holding a note card containing the names and photographs of reporters who had participated in the conference. This image emerged nearly a day after the event had taken place. The list included four reporters, two from each of their respective countries, who had posed questions during the press conference. Notably, Laura Barrón-López, one of the reporters, engaged in a memorable exchange with President Biden, who expressed doubts about the accuracy of the Palestinian death toll figures provided by the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry.

This incident isn’t an isolated one; a similar note card was observed during a joint press conference with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol in April. The card from the South Korean press conference contained a photograph, name, and pronunciation of Los Angeles Times journalist Courtney Subramanian under “Question #1,” along with what appeared to be a pre-written question. During this particular event, Subramanian was indeed the first reporter called upon and asked a question related to domestic manufacturing and its impact on South Korean companies reliant on China.

The White House did not respond to Fox News Digital’s inquiries about President Biden’s use of note cards during Wednesday’s press conference. Similarly, the four reporters did not provide any comments on whether their questions had been previewed in advance. President Biden has frequently faced ridicule for relying on cheat sheets and note cards during press conferences. This practice became evident during his first formal press conference as president in March 2021, where he was seen referencing a card with statistics and talking points. Another image showed President Biden consulting a list of pre-selected reporters along with their photographs.
