Migrant Influx Strains New York City

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham warns that the influx of undocumented migrants into New York City poses a significant threat, potentially leading to the city’s downfall and triggering a financial crisis.

Since the arrival of spring last year, over 116,000 asylum seekers have made their way to New York City, as reported by Mayor Eric Adams. Among them, more than 13,500 individuals were redirected to New York City after initially entering Texas.

To accommodate the migrants, New York City authorities have been placing them in hotels, like the Roosevelt Hotel featured in the accompanying image. Here, they complete their registration process upon arrival.

However, the surge of migrants has overwhelmed the capacity of these hotels. Consequently, some establishments have had no choice but to temporarily close their doors, leaving migrants without shelter, and forcing them to resort to sleeping on the streets.
