According to information sourced from The Washington Post, this office will function as a collaborative initiative involving the White House, the Community Justice Action Fund, and Everytown for Gun Safety. Shannon Watts, an associate of Mike Bloomberg and the founder of Moms Demand Action, expressed enthusiastic support for the creation of the Office of Gun Violence Prevention, describing it as a potentially transformative development for the movement. She emphasized that having a government body dedicated to establishing a framework for national policy, research, and resource management would be more than symbolic; it would represent a significant milestone for the cause.

Politico further emphasized that Vice President Harris will be at the helm of this office and quoted portions of a statement in which she affirmed their commitment to addressing the gun violence epidemic. She stated, “Our promise to the American people is this: we will not stop working to end the epidemic of gun violence in every community, because we do not have a moment, nor a life to spare.” Harris also highlighted the pivotal role the new Office of Gun Violence Prevention will play in implementing President Biden’s and her own efforts to curb violence within the bounds of the law, while also fostering collaboration among Congressional leaders, state and local officials, and advocacy groups to build upon the progress made in saving lives.
