Despite his frequent involvement in campaigns in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, Caesar managed to secure the position of dictator in Rome. He also held the roles of consul and tribune, with his dictatorship being renewed several times. Caesar pardoned his Senate adversaries, resulting in few domestic opponents. Upon his return to Rome some time in the 40s BC, he initiated fresh legal changes, including the modification of the Roman calendar.
